Halina’s Story Will Motivate You to Keep Learning

Halina took a leap to become Open Water certified right after her dad passed away, as a way to seek excitement in 2017. She thought it would be a recreational sport, but she fell in love with diving and was inspired to be more involved with the ocean.

She became a Marine Biologist and an AAUS Scientific diver through the University of California, Santa Cruz.

She steered her life’s direction and became a Marine Biologist and an AAUS Scientific diver through the University of California, Santa Cruz. Since then, she has participated in underwater research in Monterey Bay, California analyzing the methodology used to survey fish in kelp forests.

Then she learned how to scuba dive in a drysuit to do research in Sitka, Alaska where she studied the behavioral responses of the Pinto abalone to a common predator, the Sunflower star. Her and her scuba buddies even shaved their heads to make putting a wetsuit hood on easier!

Her next steps involve doing more research and hopefully becoming a NAUI Dive Instructor.

She enjoyed all the steps and hard work that it took to get to where she is now and hopes that she can encourage those interested in beginning diving or a career involving diving to take the leap and follow their heart!
